Bai Yao became a villainous side character in numerous horror worlds - attractive yet utterly disdained for her greed. The system left her two words "conquer them", and then disconnected due to poor signal. Having read so many novels, she understood the cliche, it was about her winning over men with pitiful fates, right? The moment she laid her eyes on a certain someone, she could sense a crimson aura radiating from him. She guessed that he must be her target, and thus... In the ghost-ridden boarding school, she found a naive boy who had been bullied. She offered him tutoring, gave him flowers, and they secretly embraced each other in the art room, notorious for its haunted history. In the abandoned hospital where six people were struggling to survive, she saved a frail boy that everyone else regarded as a burden, left behind. She delivered him resources and gear, and they hid in the closet to share careful kisses. On a treacherous island, confronted with a black, tentacled creature resembling a squid, she didn't shirk away. She hid the black creature in her pocket; it grew day by day, finally taking on a human form, and she thought she should teach it how to kiss. The system came back online, yelling in shock, "Exactly how are you pulling off romancing a host of monster bosses?!" Bai Yao: "Didn't you tell me to 'conquer' them?" The system crashed. "I told you to conquer the game, to survive till the end, not to woo the bosses!" Bai Yao: "Ah, about that...." The unspeakable creature was torn in two, its tentacles presented seashells hidden inside it upfront to her, "Yao Yao, kiss me." Bai Yao: Is there any excuse left not to kiss when the affection meter is already filled to the brim?
Late at night, Bai Yao was lying in bed, unable to fall asleep.
Just a month ago, she was showing off her wealth with her plastic sisters. In the blink of an eye, she found herself in a strange place.
She understood. This was a phenomenon known as transmigration.
As expected, a surge of electric sound rang in her mind, accompanied by a rigid mechanical voice, androgynous in nature, which said, "Welcome to...the game...please guide the host…”
The electrical buzzing was too piercing. Bai Yao covered her ears and felt headache; the sound was choppy and interrupted. After a while, the voice inside her head disappeared, as if the signal had worsened, or the power had been abruptly cut off.
However, Bai Yao was rather intelligent. She had read so many overly dramatic novels and grasped the typical transmigration plotline well. Wasn't it just about her transmigrating to guide a male character with a tragic past, to fall in love with him and save him from his loneliness and solitude?
Bai Yao looked at herself in the mirror. Her skin was akin to congealed fat, beautiful and captivating. Her small face with its exquisite features was so perfect that it was faultless. Her long and slightly curly hair was spread out, reminding people of a once-popular meme about a woman with voluptuous waves in her hair.
Of course, that was what her plastic sisters privately said about her.
However, Bai Yao never considered herself to be a dishonorable woman. She just wanted to provide every good-looking man with a warm home – was there anything wrong with that?
Of course not!
What comforted Bai Yao was that her stunning beauty was intact. The difficulty of this love game could instantly decrease to a baby's level - why would she even worry about clearing the game?
There were always bouncing footsteps from upstairs. Bai Yao covered her head under the blanket, but the noises from upstairs were too hard to ignore.
She thought that relying on her family background, she could live alone in a dormitory without any conflicts. She'd never expected that, when nighttime came around, noises would frequently be audible from the neighboring rooms.
Bai Yao couldn't stand it anymore. She threw the blanket off, got out of bed, walked to the balcony and grabbed the clothes pole. With a forceful jab, she poked at the overhead ceiling saying, "So noisy! It’s nearly three in the morning and you're still not sleeping. Can't you save your energy to have fun during the day?”
Perhaps sensing her anger, the noise from upstairs finally ceased.
At least this person has some sense of public decency.
Bai Yao dropped the clothes pole and walked to the bathroom, turning on the light. After fulfilling her physiological needs, she stood before the wash stand and turned on the tap, washing her hands. Unexpectedly, she felt the water's temperature becoming noticeably warm. Looking down, the originally clear water had turned red.
Bai Yao was startled, quickly retracting her hands. On closer inspection, the water flowing from the tap was still clean and clear. The change just now seemed to have been her hallucination.
She then took a careful look at her hands. They were slender and fair, just as perfect as her features, and they were not tainted in any strange way.
As Bai Yao lowered her head to inspect her hand, the corner of her eye caught the reflection of a disheveled woman in the mirror. She hurriedly looked up, but in the mirror was only her reflection.
She hastily touched her hair, the person in the mirror also touched her hair. She breathed a sigh of relief, "I knew it, I haven't been staying up late recently, how could I look so haggard?"
Bai Yao guessed that her recent romance had exhausted her both mentally and physically, causing her nerves to fray. She turned off the tap and planned to leave the bathroom. However, black strands of hair slowly spread out in the basin, the hair becoming longer and longer, gradually overflowing from the basin.
Bai Yao's body stiffened, and she retreated in fear until her back hit the wall, with no further way to retreat.
The bathroom light began to flicker incessantly, with a blurred figure in the mirror, disappearing, and reappearing. When it was a disheveled woman, Bai Yao had already run out of the bathroom screaming.
She hurriedly called her boyfriend. The call was answered instantly. She screamed in fear, "Shen Ji! Hurry over! The drain in my dormitory is blocked and what's coming out is so disgusting!"
Speaking of this, she covered her heart that had been shocked, sobbing, "It seems that I've been losing a lot of hair unknowingly, what should I do, I feel like I'm going bald! If I go bald, would you still love me?"
The flickering light in the bathroom stopped, but immediately after, as if stimulated, it started flickering more violently than before, even the light in the bedroom began to flash dramatically.
The wind outside the window was howling, the tree shadows swaying, and the twist in light and shadow made the atmosphere increasingly strange.
Bai Yao shrank into the bed, seeing in the mirror of the dresser opposite, a woman with thin hair obscuring her face, she cried bitterly.
The next moment, knocking sounds came from the outside of the glass window.
A shadowy figure was reflected on the window, pressing up against the glass. His pitch-black pupils radiated an exceptional brightness. Amidst the eerie sounds of the wind and tree shadows, he called out, “Yao Yao, I'm here!”
Bai Yao hurriedly got out of bed and ran over to open the window. The young boy jumped in from outside, and as soon as he touched the ground, Bai Yao threw herself into his arms. She raised her tear-streaked face, pathetically said, “Shen Ji, I'm losing my hair! I've already lost so much at my age – I'm so scared, I'm going bald!”
Holding her face, the boy comforted her, kissing her gently, “A fairy won't go bald.”
He stroked her head, a soft smile twinkling in his eyes, “Yao Yao's hair is so thick and beautiful, even when you turn a hundred, it will still be bright and pretty.”
The boy was tall and thin, dressed in a simple white tee and black shorts. His face was clean and handsome, and his smile was filled with optimism, easily infecting those around him. Especially when consoling others, he was wonderfully understanding and patient towards her.
Bai Yao gradually calmed down, still startled, she complained, “You have no idea how terrified I was seeing so much hair loss. I was even hallucinating, thinking I was going bald in the mirror.”
Shen Ji glanced at the mirror.
The reflection in the mirror disappeared in an instant, and even the dim and flickering light in the room became completely bright.
Bai Yao looked up at the light and sighed, "Old houses are not good, the voltage is always unstable."
She led Shen Ji into the bathroom, “The drain is blocked, can you fix it?”
Just as he would immediately scale the wall from the boy's dormitory and knock on her fourth-floor dormitory window in the dead of night whenever she needed him, he was her all-in-one hero.
However, upon entering the bathroom, the sink and floor were clean. No hair, not even a drop of water was found.
Bai Yao blinked her eyes.
Shen Ji exclaimed, “The hair must have been washed down the drain again, don't worry, I'll check if the drain is clogged.”
Bai Yao nodded, following Shen Ji as he began to examine the faucet then checked the plumbing by squatting down. She squatted down with him and then asked a question, “Shen Ji, do you love me?”
Shen Ji looked at her, leaning in to kiss the corner of her lips, his eyes curved in a gentle smile, "Of course, I love you, I love you every day."
Ever since they were together, she asked this question every day, and his answer was always the same.
Bai Yao licked her lips, leaning into his embrace. She mused to herself, since he loves her so much, why hasn't she received a notification of completing the game yet?
Was it that her favorability level wasn't high enough?
After checking that nothing was wrong, Shen Ji washed his hands and lifted the girl clinging to him like a koala out of the restroom. He lightly stroked her face and gently asked, "Yao Yao, are you afraid to sleep alone at night?"
Bai Yao rested her face on his chest, nonchalantly murmuring, "There is no ghost knocking on my door in the middle of the night, I’m not afraid."
Shen Ji remained silent.
Bai Yao looked up, boasting in triumph, "Don't I have great courage?"
Shen Ji responded with a smile, "Yes, my Yao Yao is indeed very brave."
Bai Yao puffed up with pride at his praise.
Hilarious.
It was just a school-age romance game. There weren’t any horror elements, so what was there to be afraid of?
